AGAINST POVERTY

A NEW CAP CENTRE
IN WALLASEY

We’re proud to have recently entered in to a partnership with Christians Against Poverty and a number of local churches to open a new CAP Debt Centre at Jubilee Church in Wallasey – just the second such centre in the whole of Wirral.

CAP Debt Centres give free help to anyone in debt. Thousands of people have already been given hope and a solution.

Hannah Faluyi of Jubilee Church Wirral is the Wallasey CAP Debt Centre Manager, with Nathan Lanceley the Pastor here at Hebron Church working alongside Hannah as Life Skills Manager.

CAP Life Skills groups are friendly groups giving people the confidence and decision-making skills they need to survive life on a low income. CAP teaches people practical money-saving techniques, such as cooking on a budget, living healthily on less, and making your money go further.

Each Life Skills course is a FREE eight-week course run from various locations throughout the Wirral.

What exactly is a CAP Life Skills course?

Money impacts all areas of our lives: what we can or can’t afford, our relationships, what we eat, our health and wellbeing and much more. Your local CAP Life Skills is a free friendly group where you’ll gain practical skills and discover new ways to live for a brighter future.

If you want to see your money go further, find ways to save money, have more time time and less hassle in your day to day life, then Life Skills is for you.

What does the Life Skills course involve?

Life Skills is an eight-week course that will equip you with tools such as how to eat well on a budget, and how to make your money go further. You’ll meet with a group of like minded people and learn practical skills from our trained coaches – and have some fun along the way!

How much does it cost?

Absolutely nothing – our Life Skills courses are completely free.

Do I have to be a Christian?

Not at all – our services are for everyone. As Christians, we believe that God answers prayer, so we may offer to pray with you, and talk about our faith, but it’s up to you if you’re happy for us to do this or not. We’re a charity that is passionate about helping people from all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and faiths.

JENNY'S STORY

I’ve met so many people through

CAP Life Skills!

It’s a big family – I look forward to the group and feel excited to help others.

I learned about budgeting and changed my habits and, because I’m spending differently now, I save so much money.

Last year I was actually able to go on holiday with my kids.”

Our vision at
Christians Against Poverty

Debt and poverty continue to drain hope from people’s lives, and we’re not okay with that. Since CAP first began, tens of thousands of people have been helped through our free, community-based services, but there is much more to be done. Millions in the UK still face the practical and personal battles waged by debt, unemployment, low income and a lack of money education.

We’re committed to providing practical help and holistic support through local churches, partnering with those who share our heart, and proclaiming the good news of the gospel every step of the way.

We want to see people released from poverty, living with faith in Jesus and hope for the future.

Our history

With a small donation and big faith, John Kirkby started Christians Against Poverty in 1996. He believed God was calling him to sacrifice his career in finance and use his knowledge of the industry to help the poor.

In his hometown of Bradford, John set off on the incredible journey of CAP. His faith adventure led him to people crippled by debt; parents who couldn’t feed their children, families facing eviction and desperate people living in fear and without hope. He used his expertise to negotiate with creditors, set up budgeting systems and offer a lifeline to those trapped in debt.

John knew that people all over the country were struggling in the same way and he began looking to replicate the work across the UK. With the vital ingredients of a church to partner with, a passionate person to be trained as a debt counsellor and the faith that God would provide, four new CAP centres were opened at the end of 1998.

Since then, CAP has rapidly grown its debt centre network and expanded its services to tackle the causes of debt and poverty too. As well as CAP Debt Help, we now help people step into employment through CAP Job Clubs and help equip people to live well on a low income through our CAP Life Skills groups. Our vision is to see transformed lives through the local church in every community through a nationwide network of CAP projects.
